For 3 Generations...
Esdras Gagnon was born on July 12, 1881 in Saint-Roch-des-Aulnaies. It was there that he learned the blacksmith trade. When he moved to Sainte-Perpétue, he was already practicing his profession. He passed on the forge shop to his son Léo who, at the age of 15, was already an accomplished blacksmith.
Leo will take over from his father. Besides being a good blacksmith and shoeing horses, he made "borleaux" and "sleighs". These various occupations not allowing him to meet his needs properly, he began to sell various furniture and household appliances such as stoves, refrigerators, washers, wood stoves, furnaces, centrifuges, etc. This is how he came up with the idea of transforming the forge shop into a store. Subsequently, he built a building next to it which would become the store. The old store will be transformed into a warehouse. The official opening took place in 1947. Growing demand forced Léo in 1961 to build a new store on three floors.
Still flourishing, the Gagnon Meubles business was sold to his son Esdras, who took possession of it in September 1973. Esdras administered the store under the same vocation, making some improvements according to the various market banners.
In turn, he sold the store to his son Régis in March 2004. In the summer of 2005, Régis expanded the store and built a brand new warehouse. Since that time, Léo's grandson has been in charge of the store with his dynamism and his vision. Leo would be proud of the fame and competitiveness of today's trade.
